Henry with handler Marion came to the line at 11:50 am ... 

LF – Henry made quick work of his flyer

LR – Good line to the area. Swam across the pond coming in at the base of the holding blind, he shoots past and is handled as he begins to climb the hill.

RF – He gets his flyer – good mark!

RR – Henry is across the pond – right of the guns and continues ... he is handled to this bird.

This test took Henry 20 minutes to complete ...

After the second Test Dog ran, the Judges decided to take out the left-hand flyer, making the test a Water Triple with One Flyer and Two Retired.

Maci with handler Lee came to the line at 11:19 am ...

LF – Straight up the hill and to her flyer!

LR – Into the pond across the point and back into the water. She comes up behind the blind for an extended hunt along the far shore. She works out the bird and got it!

RR – Angling across the small pond, Maci gets up on the land bridge that carried her below the main pond. She works her way around the dam to hunt behind the guns. After an extended hunt she comes to the waters edge to cross over and get her bird.

RF – Maci got across the pond and went deep of the bird. She was handled to this bird.

This test took Maci 20 minutes to complete ... 

 

 

 

 

10th Series – Water Triple with a Flyer and Two Retired

The 10th Series is on Andy Kahn's "Sheep Barn Pond." This area has three ponds which are tied by land bridges. The larger pond is on the far side and has several points and an island. The mat is on a hill in the northeast corner of the field.

From left to right the stations are:

Bird 1 – Flyer: (we will refer to this bird as F for Flyer)

This mark is a rooster up the hill behind the large pond. This group of three gunners will throw then shoot to the right with the rooster landing approximately 301 yards from the mat in a field of tall grass with mowed strips.

Bird 2 – Right Retired: (we will refer to this bird as RR for Right Retired)

This bird is on the right side of the large pond in a brushed blind at the water's edge. The two gunners come out to throw and shoot a dead drake mallard. This duck lands on an island in front of them and converges with Flyer, approximately 296 yards from the mat.

 

Bird 3 – Left Retired: (we will refer to this bird as LR for Left Retired)

The well-brushed blind has two gunners who come out and stand at the left edge of the large pond. They shoot and throw left with the dead hen mallard landing behind a strip of cover 204 yards from the mat. This test is taking approximately 15-20 minutes per dog.

The order will be:

Flyer

Right Retired

Left Retired

 

Tenth Series – Water Triple with a Flyer and Two Retired

Bird 1 – Flyer – 301 yards

 Bird 2 – Right Retired – 296 yards

Bird 3 – Left Retired – 204 yards

9th Series – Water Blind

16 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out the day today at 8:03 am, beginning with "Henry," next up was "Macy" at 8:12 am. Handlers got their preview of what to expect for the 9th series water blind and we were ready to go!

Our first running dog #28 FC-AFC Buster Posey MH, “Buster,” LM, with handler Steve Kompf officially kicked off the 9th series running at 8:29 am!

The weather this morning started in the 60’s and warmed up as we went. Skies were sunny.

Here is how things turned out for the 8th Series…

Our last running dog this morning to complete the 9th Series was dog #21 FC-AFC BD North Shore's Instant Rain Gear QA2, “Poncho,” LM, with handler Malcolm Haith. They came to the line at 9:57 am and completed the test. This test was then officially in the books at 10:03 am. 

16 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of 1 hour and 34 minutes. It took on average just under 6 minutes per dog to run this test.. 

Callbacks are up and we are waiting on to the 10th Series!

21. FC-AFC BD NORTH SHORE’S INSTANT RAIN GEAR QA2, “Poncho,” LM, Malcolm Haith

Poncho and Malcolm came to the line at 9:57 am

3 whistles to the base of the hill and this carried him through the draw and onto the point
1 more cast into the pond
A few more to get on the island – cast off into the cove
Several more for direction and on to his bird.

 

20. FC-AFC BAYOU TECHE EXPRESS, “Ryan,” LF,” Lauren Hays

Ryan and Lauren came to the line at 9:52 am

Great momentum
2 whistles to water entry
2 whistles over the land
2 whistles on and off the island
3 whistles over the point and through the last cove of water to her bird!

Sally and Terry came to the line at 9:34 am

1 cast on the hill on the way down – carried a great line through the water and onto the point

Multiple casts carried her up onto the island

A few more whistles and she got her bird!
